The Latest from 94 WARRIORS NEWS
If
you haven't noticed, the first memories that resurfaced from the Robert
T. Lussier Karaoke Contest are now in the 94 WARRIORS NEWS tab. Right
now, that is all that came back to me. And if you see my glasses
anywhere, could you tell them to put down the drink and come back
home. They are greatly missed at home.
As for the rest of the
night, it was like going back in time for some reason. I met up with
people I haven't seen in years. It was like hanging out when I was a
young fella, there was no trouble, everyone was getting along and
enjoying the moment like Mr. Lussier would have wanted. There were a
lot of cousins at the gathering so I hope no one ended up kissing their
cousin.

Lydell
J. Roberts and Otis Maximus (Gregory Sumner). Ode had to put his
glasses on because he almost kissed his favorite cousin. Err!!!

The wife had a blast catching up with "old" classmates like Kris Schoenborn.

far the freshest piece of clothing of the night, courtesy of B-Jack. I
followed him around like a vulture in hopes of him becoming vulnerable
to scoop up this awesome coat. But alas, it was not meant to be.
Watch your back, B-Jack!

The host, Mr. Preston D. Sumner.

Otis Maximus getting manhandled by the Rods with Squanto (Mike Martin) cheering them on.
Unfortunately, these were the best pictures of the night. Be on the lookout for the DVD soon.

The Little Rock housing project is going along as planned. There will be towels and blankets up in the windows in no time!
In
a squeaker last night, the Red Lake Boys & Girls Club members
defeated the Club Staff by the score of 63-62. Led by Ryan Holthusen
and Aaron Beaulieu, the members were able to hold on to the lead as
Harvey Roy III missed the game winning shot and Paul S.'s put back was
blocked from behind as time expired. Game 2 will be on July 1... when
the NBA Finals gets to game 3.
In other sports, Red Lake High
School's Rob Pemberton followed up his opening round of 80 on Wednesday
with a 9th place finish in the Minnesota State tournament. The whole
'rez' congratulates the recent graduate on a fine season and thanks him
for inspiring the youth of our nation.
In other news, 94
Warriors has declared a media war on RLNN.COM. 94 Warriors promises to
bring more relevant news to the Red Lake Nation with real stories from
Makwambe to Big Stone that actually have something to do with us and
promises to not be the 'Debbie Downer' of Indian Country by not posting
all the assaults and robberies that involve the 'sweethearts' of
northern Minnesota. "You have been warned," says 94 Warriors CEO
Lydell J. Roberts.
In a recent poll, Bebo was considered to be
only for 'drama queens.' The poll asked a CEO of an independent video
production business on the Red Lake Indian Reservation which social
networking site was the most useless. He also added, "Hey man, I'm
just keepin' it real."
The world is mourning the loss of a 70's
icon today as news of David Carradine was found dead in his Thailand
hotel room of an apparent suicide. He is most remembered from his role
as Caine in 'Kung Fu' and more recently of the Quentin Tarantino film,
'Kill Bill.' He was 72.
Construction on the new 7 Clans Casino
- Red Lake is in full swing this summer and it looks REALLY SMALL!
When we asked a resident of the Little Rock community who recently ran
for district representative, about the development on the project, he
said, "Are you f***in' serious? I thought that sh*t was going to be
bigger. Is this going to be like the original River Road where we have
a tiny shack and add on bits and pieces over the years? How do we
expect to bring in Winger and Jackyl to our caseen for some good ol'
fashioned rock and roll?!" The project is expected to be finished in
time for freezing temperatures and to take away Christmas present money
away from local families.

Greetings,
For
the past few weeks, the company has been going through a lot of
adversity. With family coming first here at 94 Warriors, we had to
take some time, step back and reevaluate what was important and focus
on those that we care about most. Now that we're back to where we
think we need to be, it's time to get back at doing what we do best:
boring the masses. So check out The Book of Jon and 94 WARRIORS NEWS

Jon R.The 2nd Annual Robert T. Lussier Karaoke Contest

Friday evening, 94 Warriors attended the 2nd Annual Robert T. Lussier Karaoke Contest. The 94W Crue arrived about 9:20 to an almost packed Gonvick establishment. You could feel the enthusiasm in the air, man. This was going to go down like a real 'Rez' gathering like the old days.
(Names, behaviors and events were altered to protect Tribal employees.)
When I arrived, the crowd seemed to be in a good mood and cousins everywhere! While getting settled in with the crowd, a young gentleman by the name of 'Lucker' approached me and had questions about his hand drum he had just acquired and when he should smudge it with sweet grass. Now, this is one of the most common mistakes make when people approach me. Everybody thinks I sing powwow and know all of the customs of the Anishinaabe culture. I am ashamed that I don't, but that's who I am. I was too busy chasing chicks in my teen years to learn how to sing with Kev and the rest of the guys. So to not look a fool, I agreed with everything he said and threw in a "that's what I did with mine" to make it look like I knew what I was talking about. It seemed to be a legitimate offering of "wisdom", he bought a brotha a tasty refreshing beverage later on that night.
My only request as payment was MiniDV tapes, which the cousins bought and brought to me as I finished up with my session of Anishinaabe knowledge 'Lucker', who was sporting a snazzy leather vest with a bald eagle on it. (When he bought the refreshing beverage, I mentioned to him how awesome it would be if he took his T-shirt off and just rocked the vest alone. He responded, "Like I did at MoonDance?!" Touche', 'Lucker'. Touche'.)
So it was on with karaoke. The first act I was fortunate enough to witness was a young portly man we'll call 'Pito', who did a fine job with the Gretchen Wilson ditty, "Red Neck Woman." 'Pito' was clever enough to change it up a little bit by singing "Red Lake Woman" and got the ladies in the crowd involved by asking for a "Howah!" instead of the usual, "Hell Yeah!"

THIS JUST IN FROM 94 WARRIORS NEWS:
We go to our Outlet Correspondent, Mar for the latest in Outdoor news:
"Went to Blackduck bridge......there wasn't e'en any fish o-er der either......"
Hiiiikes, Mar. Maybe next time, little buddy.
Also around the 'Rez,' there was a disturbance in Hooterville Friday night involving that one guy who was doing something and had Red Lake police combing the area. Our Action News team took a ride out there but was unable to get any info.
Speaking of which, 94 WARRIORS NEWS is looking for more contributors/correspondents. If you're at a lot of powwows, 49s, softball tournaments, ace parties or just on vacation, send in some reports so we can get a wider perspective on 'Rez Life.' Hopefully we'll be getting more news from Mar and a young gentleman by the name of Charlie Kelly has shown interest in contributing as well. So that should be awesome.
It was a slow weekend on this end of God's Country, but I heard there was a rad (that's my new word I heard from Mark Hoppus and Diablo Cody on Twitter) party in Redby last night. I asked a good citizen of the happs last night, but she didn't remember much, which is a good sign a good time was had by most.
As for the 94 Warriors team, we had a glorious cookout followed by bowling and a small get together afterwards. If only every weekend could rock like this one.
But right now, 94 WARRIORS NEWS would like to offer a social commentary from the founder of the 94 Warriors empire, Chief Executive Officer, writer, director, producer, editor, booger eating, chair sniffing, transit riding, too broke for flying, quote stealing, arm wrestling champion, son of a Eve... Mr. Lydell J. Roberts:
First of all, let me thank you for paying attention to 94 Warriors. We've been up and operating for 30 months and have slowly been getting to where we need to be. I appreciate your patience greatly. Thank you.
Cruising up and down this reservation, one can speculate what needs to be done in order for Red Lake to get where it and it's people need to be. We've all witnessed the good and the bad that this place has to offer. Some of it, we can't avoid. The rest of it, it's our own damn fault. As an awkwardly handsome resident of this fine land, I've been there, man. Some things you can't control, that is a given. But for everything else, you just have to be smart. There are times when I just want to grab people by the face and say, "What are you thinking?!" We need to pay more attention to our kids, our parents, our elders. Yeah, there are some undesirables out there, the ones that have no respect for anyone or themselves. We just have to keep looking ahead to where we want to be and hopefully, everything will fall into place. Now this is about the time where we can expect someone to say, "Well what about when you (something stupid that happened in the past)?! You think you're just good when all you ever did was (something stupid that happened in the past)!" That's the way it is around here, man. Somebody's going to say something stupid and irrelevant and start trouble. Red Lakers. I like what Tom Barrett, Jr. said the other day on Facebook, (now I'm paraphrasing[which means you can say whatever you want when you want to quote someone... I just learned that]) he said, "Quit being..." okay, I forgot what he said. I suppose it was quit complaining, being all emotional, telling the online world your little problems that you think is the end of the world when it's not. Or something like that.
Yeah! Right on, brotha! *raises a fist of support*

Warriors Fall To CL-Bby Lydell J. Roberts
posted 9:20 am
Last Tuesday night the Warriors lost to the Panthers. The end.
(They could have won, but they didn't. Free throws and rebounding were among the enemies that Warriors couldn't handle.)
Yeah, it's a week later. It's my news section and I can put whatever I want, whenever I want. Which is why I'll never succeed in anything. Peace!
CL-B Advances to State Tourney

Cass Lake-Bena beat some school to make it to the State Tournament again (Yay! *clapping like the Joker sarcastically when Gordon was promoted to Commissioner in the Dark Knight*) In a related story, a chubby young man vows to slash any Red Lake Warriors fan's tires that are going support CL-B.
31709High school boys basketball: Red Lake (clap, clap) Warriors, Cass Lake-Bena meet tonight in sub-section semifinals
Bemidji Pioneer
Published Monday, March 16, 2009 One of northern Minnesota’s biggest boys basketball rivalries will take center stage tonight in the Section 8A playoffs.
Red Lake and Cass Lake-Bena will meet in the Section 8A East Subsection championship game at 6:30 p.m. at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls.
The winner moves on to Friday night’s Section 8A championship game for a chance to reach the state tournament. The season ends for the loser.
Red Lake enters tonight’s game as the top overall seed in the subsection. The Warriors are a much-improved team from last year and are led by senior Rob Pemberton and junior Tim Lajeunesse.
The Warriors have a 20-5 overall record this season, with all of the losses coming to strong teams. Two of the losses have come against Minnesota Transitions Charter School, the team that defeated Cass Lake-Bena in the state semifinals last season.
The Warriors average 85 points scored per game and 75 points allowed per game.
Red Lake’s road to the subsection championship has included a 97-65 win over No. 8 Red Lake County in the quarterfinals and a 74-60 win over No. 4 Blackduck in the semifinals.
Defending section champion Cass Lake-Bena enters tonight’s game as the No. 2 seed in the subsection. The Panthers have a 22-6 record this season and have won 10 of their last 11 games. The only loss was a 78-74 loss to Nevis at the end of February.
The Panthers are led by senior Nate Howard, senior Jeromy O’Brien and junior Martin Wind.
The Panthers average 93 points scored per game and 68 points allowed per game this season.
Cass Lake-Bena’s route to the subsection championship has included a 74-37 win over No. 7 Win-E-Mac in the quarterfinals and an 88-71 win over No. 3 Clearbrook-Gonvick in the semifinals.
Red Lake and Cass Lake-Bena have split the two meetings against each other this season.
The Warriors took the first game in Red Lake and beat the Panthers 91-79. It was the start of a three-game losing streak for Cass Lake-Bena.
Cass Lake-Bena won the second game in Cass Lake, defeating the Warriors 113-70.
Given the previous scores between the two teams and their offensive and defensive averages, tonight’s game could turn into an offensive shootout.
What this story should mean to the Red Lake Nation and the 94 Warriors ArmyNow that doesn't mean
if the Warriors lose, all the Red Lakers jump on Cass Lake's bandwagon like in years past. When I was in school, CL-B was the enemy! When did all of this change?! We were glad when they lost in the championship game a few years ago, were we not? THAT is what rivalry means! Not follow them down to the Cities IF they make it to State.
Somebody had to say it.
